this sunday we took the u train to visit the hokusai retrospective in martin gropius bau.
die menge fabelhafter drucke – wunderbar präsentiert – überstieg meine aufnahmefähigkeit. ein übermaß purer schönheit.
vielleicht haben mich deshalb die illustrierten bücher in den tischvitrinen angezogen. mir gefiel der „gebrauchsgrafische“ ansatz – die möglickeit, selbst zu entdecken.
the amount of fabulous prints on the walls – all perfectly presented – overshoot my capacity
– to much pure beauty to absorb.
maybe thats why the illustrated books presented on display tables
for me were even more joyful to deal with.
i love the applied arts aspect of this work, the beauty to find and not only be admired…
ein ganzer raum war den hokusai mangas – oder „das wesen vermitteln und das malen lernen“ (die „triviale“ konotation sollte wohl vermieden werden…) gewidmet. eine großartige sammlung von skizzen (als holzschnitte umgestetzt) von leuten, tiern, mustern, werkzeugen….
eine ausgabe hokusais von niwa yoshitoks arbeit „über das zeichnen mit nur einem pinselstrich“ im nächste raum – ich versuchte die lektion an museumsvolk umzusetzen (und verbrauchte alle tinte im pinsel und jeden leeren fleck meines heftes…)
one whole room was dedicated to the hokusai mangas
– or (how it was presumably named in order not to be pulled down on a „trivial“ level) „the essence of subject,
matter and learning how to paint“. a great collection of sketches (all converted in woodprint and aranged to beautiful spreads) of humans, animals, tools, etc. – i did not know these and was smashed.
there was one edition by hokusai of work by niwa yoshitok
about drawing with just one brushstroke
– i tried to do lecture directly on museum folk
(finally using up all blank space in my booklet and ink
in my brush..).
